Fern & Flow Journals

Thanks for my awesome new cape, I LOVE it. Wore it out on a walk and it was the perfect weight. The nature fibres made it super warm and breathable, highly recommend:)

About Us

Who Are We
Hello I am Danae, owner of Bolts & Bee’s. Being creative and sharing my skills with other people is my passion. I first started sewing using a sewing machine when I was about 12 years old, with little stuff like bags. Within a year of sewing lessons in college, I started sewing complex costumes for myself and for parties I was attending. A few favourite styles of clothing are, medieval, Renaissance era, vintage, Hippie and especially the 1940s - 50s. My Maori heritage is important to me and I am passionate about weaving the language and culture into my business.

Our Story

When I was 16, I learnt how much fabric gets thrown out and put into landfill. I wanted to find a way to minimise the amount of fabric that was being wasted. All of our fabric offcuts from Bolts & Bee's clothing is kept and then used as scrunchies, bows, or dolls clothing. Our first collection was primarily created from recycled fabric that someone didn't want, was heading to the trash, or had been hidden in people’s sewing cupboards for many years. Through to today, we are still making use of fabric that would otherwise go to waste. Throughout 2020, I did some sewing for a friend’s two young girls. That sparked an idea that I could turn this into a small business. With some convincing, great ideas and a lot of help from the people around me, Bolts & Bee’s finally launched on the 10th of May 2021, and we have continued to grow ever since. We look forward to making our way to markets and growing our collection of clothing for both boys and girls.
